More YouTube news: video player redesign, users almost watched 100 videos in March

Lots of YouTube updates this week. On Wednesday, we blogged about the fact that YouTube is starting a streaming paid movie rental service. Well, here’s a couple more YouTube tidbits that hit the web today.
First off, if you’ve watched a YouTube video recently, you’ll notice that the video time bar has been given a thinner appearance. Check Reelseo.com for screen shots of the old and new video player as well as for information on additional redesign info.
Secondly, comScore has released their March 2010 online video rankings, which has the stunning statistic that last month YouTube users watched 96 videos on average. That breaks down to 3.2 YouTube clips a day. Additionally, over 180 million U.S. internet users watched video, and 136M of them, or 96%, went to YouTube to watch. Viewers of Hulu watched 2.4 hours of video in February

Reelseo.com has some excellent figures from comScore on online video viewership from February 2010.
The biggest news is that Hulu viewers watched 2.4 hours of online video and the site grabbed 3.2% of all videos watched (up .4% from January 2010). Still, the leader in online video viewership is Google who leads the pack with 42.5% of all videos watched, which is up three percent from January 2010.

The top video ad networks in terms of their actual reach delivered were: Joost Video Network (by Adconion Media Group) with 38.3 percent penetration of online video viewers, BBE with 18.3 percent, and BrightRoll Video Network with 18.1 percent. 83.1 percent of the total U.S. Internet audience viewed online video. 132.4 million viewers watched 11.9 billion videos on YouTube.com (89.5 videos per viewer). The average Hulu viewer watched 23.3 videos, totaling 2.4 hours of video per viewer. The duration of the average online video was 4.3 minutes.

Online TV shows to increase web video advertising

Reelseo.com reports that a new study from ComScore, a very accurate web metrics firm, finds that viewers of online content will be up for more online video advertising.
The study states that an online video viewer would be receptive to 6 or 7 minute of video advertising per hour of content.

Here’s another great article from the online social media guide Mashable.com titled, “5 Tips for Using Video to Grow Your Business in 2010.”
The piece was written by Patrick Moran near the beginning of 2010. Moran begins the piece with some powerful statistics on online video viewership. “A recent study by comScore revealed that in October 2009, more than 167 million viewers in the U.S. watched an average of 167 videos each, while YouTube (YouTube) reached 1 billion views per day – or 41 million views per hour – in the same month,” Moran writes.
