YouTube allows users to recreate their famous “Search Story” Superbowl commercial

by Richard Giraldi on Apr.26, 2010, under Uncategorized

youtubeAt this year’s Superbowl, one commercial that caught the attention of the millions who were watching was the “Parisian Love” ad from Google. Of course, at this point in time, Google probably doesn’t need to market itself as the search engine has become THE search engine as people often use the term “Google” as a verb these days.

Still, the commercial, which you can watch at YouTube right now, was funny, clever and heartwarming all at the same time. Quite a feat for a 30 second spot that only included images of Google searches.

Well now YouTube has created a clever little application on their website which allows anyone to create their own search stories. I’m sure some will be pretty interesting despite the information cut off (YouTube limits the stories to seven keyword entries). After writing the story, the user can also add in their own set or pre-selected YouTube music – most of which really captures the “cute” theme Google’s original had.

Want to create your own search story? Head on over to Youtube.com/searchstories and have a go.

We couldn’t resist making one of our own, so check it out below:

Is Twitter the key to online video viewership?

by Richard Giraldi on Apr.13, 2010, under Uncategorized

Twitter_256x256According to a new quarterly research report from web video distribution and tracking site TubeMogul and online video platform Brightcove, Twitter might be a key component in getting consumers to watch Internet video.

The report, titled “Brightcove and TubeMogul Publish Data on Trends in Online Music Videos as part of New Quarterly Research Report,” focuses on music video viewership.

But it was this little nugget of info, which is the most interesting:

Our research found consumers that find online music videos via Twitter watch an average of 2:30 minutes per stream compared to the 1:30 minutes viewed on average by consumers discovering online music videos via search engines like Yahoo!. However, 76% of online music videos viewed on artist and label sites are found through Google searches.

So, people who find music videos on Twitter on average spend a minute more watching than people who found the same video via search engines? That’s huge. It’s not just huge for Twitter as a social media tool, but it illustrates that video production companies, such as ourselves, artists and web video creators need to embrace social networks if they want their videos to be seen for maximum amount of time – which is a must for marketing impact.

You can read the full report at Tubemogul.com right now. Additionally, if you’re thinking of producing an Internet marketing video for your brand or business, be sure to check out our production services information and contact us to start planning your video today.

Video Professionals Award Winner: Zappos.com

by Richard Giraldi on Apr.09, 2010, under Uncategorized

zappos_logo-200x87On Tuesday, April 6, we blogged about how Zappos.com was using internet video as a marketing tool to increase their sales.

For that reason, we’ve decided to award shoe and clothing company Zappos.com our Video Professionals Award for this week.

In addition to their use of video for marketing, Zappos asks for costumers to share their experience with the company via a YouTube video, which is a great way for potential customers to see what kind of experience previous customers have had with the company. They call it the “Zappos Video Experience.” Here’s a Zappos representative explaining this video initiative:

Finally, here’s an actual testimonial from a Zappos customer:
