Is Twitter the key to online video viewership?
by Richard Giraldi on Apr.13, 2010, under Uncategorized
According to a new quarterly research report from web video distribution and tracking site TubeMogul and online video platform Brightcove, Twitter might be a key component in getting consumers to watch Internet video.
The report, titled “Brightcove and TubeMogul Publish Data on Trends in Online Music Videos as part of New Quarterly Research Report,” focuses on music video viewership.
But it was this little nugget of info, which is the most interesting:
Our research found consumers that find online music videos via Twitter watch an average of 2:30 minutes per stream compared to the 1:30 minutes viewed on average by consumers discovering online music videos via search engines like Yahoo!. However, 76% of online music videos viewed on artist and label sites are found through Google searches.
So, people who find music videos on Twitter on average spend a minute more watching than people who found the same video via search engines? That’s huge. It’s not just huge for Twitter as a social media tool, but it illustrates that video production companies, such as ourselves, artists and web video creators need to embrace social networks if they want their videos to be seen for maximum amount of time – which is a must for marketing impact.
