A new YouTube paywall and other video trends

by Video One Pro on May.16, 2012, under Case Study, Video Marketing

According to some industry rumors, YouTube is trying to acquire some premium content for the site that would only be available to users who pay for a subscription. While this wouldn't change or effect all the other videos on the network, the social video leader is quickly becoming something more than a home for teenage vloggers - it's positioning itself as a full-blown content network. Video Professional’s Award: Epipheo Studios

by Video One Pro on May.11, 2012, under Best Practices, Case Study, Video Marketing, Video Professionals Award, Viral Videos

Epipheo is a motion graphics studio that produces corporate videos for commercial clients. Their videos have a unique style, one that's fun, light, sometimes cute, and a little silly. A quality that is evident in a short tutorial they made for an author with robot expertise. Using video to promote books might seem like a counter-intuitive strategy (you wouldn't use latte foam art to promote a new radio show...), but Epipheo's style compliments the video's content perfectly. It's humorous, legitimized in a vale of helpfulness, and puts some rather impressive motion graphics on display. If you are running a video production company, ad agency, or any other creative firm, be wary of putting all your attention on client projects. Those are necessary to fuel your business, but they're not always a good exercise of creativity. You want to show your creative side when you're looking for new revenue streams, so maybe take a week to make something just for your company. It might end up going viral like Epipheo's video.

Discovery bought Revision3 (holy moly…)

by Video One Pro on May.06, 2012, under Case Study

In the world realm of online video production, Discovery Network's purchase of Revision3 is about as important as Facebook buying Instagram. Revision3 is one of the biggest online video platforms and host to some of the most popular online video channels on the internet. Revision3's producers make a living creating digital content, funded by an impressive flow of ad revenue. While the purchase of Revision3 probably won't effect the quality or type of content being produced by the site's current, and popular users. We might see some platform-wide initiatives that dictate the type of content the site develops in the future. According to Jim Louderback, CEO of Revision3, the acquisition is a success story for the entire online video industry.
"It’s certainly a bit of a validation for the whole web original video space, and definitely legitimizes what we’re up to.  As for our current programming it just means we’ll be doing more."
You won't hear Louderback calling this the start of an entire media revolution though...
"The history of media is not that a new media replaces the old, but that it finds its own place in the pantheon of media.  Web original video is doing just that, it’s not going to make traditional TV go away, it will just change it a bit – and probably take some of the time spent with that medium away.  But certainly not all of it, and most likely not even a majority."
This purchase is perhaps one of the surest signs that online video production is shaping up to be a powerful force in the whole media landscape. For help with all your editing or marketing projects, visit Video One Productions to see what we can do for you.
