Augmented reality marketing is the latest trend in reaching customers through multimedia and interactive technology. The technology, which typically involves a computer and a webcam, has been put to use by brands like BMW, USPS, and Ray-Ban.
But while most augmented reality campaigns require people to visit a website or print an image, Forever 21’s newest billboard is the latest attempt at using state-of-the-art technology to make customers a part of the advertising.
Located above the clothing company’s Times Square branch, the digital billboard features a Forever 21 model interacting with people standing in front of the store.
The new billboard was designed by space150, a marketing agency based in Minneapolis, Brooklyn, and Los Angeles. According to James Squires, space150’s director of technology, “…people only look at billboards for six seconds on average. We wanted to extend that.”
