Best Practices: Video Press Releases

Of all the uses for online video, press releases are one of the hardest to pull off. A good videographer Chicago press release builds interest and awareness towards a business, event, or individual. But a bad press release can have the opposite effect, capable of tarnishing someone’s reputation and eliminating any interest people had.

The shortcomings of the above release should be obvious, but these are my top 3.

  • The video production looks like it it was filmed in Darth Vader’s living room, what does that have to do with Rose Garcia, her beauty or her career.
  • The speaker’s voice is distracting to the point of amusement. After watching it, viewers will probably recall how the speaker says “dot com” more than anything about Rose Garcia. *COUGH*SPEECH IMPEDIMENT*COUGH*
  • The whole thing looks and sounds like it was recorded with a digital camera, or a Polaroid with a home-made sound chip. We’ve seen better quality footage come from ChatRoulette.

Video amateurs can create a decent press release by themselves, if done right.

  • The video was obviously done professionally, using decent music and great editing.
  • It was created on multiple locations and using a lot of people involved in the event.
  • It effectively shows off the fashion line-up being promoted in a way that is interesting and pleasing.
  • The video production should direct us to a source where viewers can learn more about the products. It doesn’t quite stand-alone, but it might capture someone’s attention enough to do some research into the clothing line.

Brands and people should be careful when doing a videographer Chicago press release video. They have a lot of potential, but can be delicate projects. There are a lot of video press releases out there that we haven’t seen or mentioned. So here is a challenge! Comment with a link to the best and worst press release you have ever seen. We want to see something so bad that watching it will ruin our reputation. BRING IT ON!
