If you’re thinking about buying a digital camcorder for your video production projects, you might be wondering what a professional videographer looks for in a camera. Here’s some advice:
Things like digital zoom and megapixels, contrary to popular belief, don’t matter for video cameras. Megapixels make a difference for still photography, but for video you should look at chips for image clarity. Look for 3CDD as opposed to 1CDD for a sharper picture.
Unless you’re looking for that shaky image that seems to be gaining popularity (oddly enough) these days, you’ll want to consider image stabilization. Sure, you’ll probably use tripods for video production, but maybe not every time. The best way to test this out is to demo the camera in the store, but the typically more expensive option of optical image stabilization is really worth the money.
