According to a comscore assessment of Canada’s online video habits, Canadians chewed through an astounding about of online video in Q4 2010 with more than 6.6 billion video views in multimedia sites alone.
The largest growth sector for online video in the Great White North was Music, with a 279% jump in viewership. However, Q4 2010 amounted to some 8 billion video views across the board. Not too shabby for a country of only around 35 million.
It is also worth noting that 46% of videos were consumed by people 35 or older, proof that online video isn’t exactly a kid’s sport. Canadians, on average, watched some 267 videos in Q4 and over 20 hours per month. That’s more than the US averages in time spent which is impressive.
It’s hard to say how these statistics translate to corporate video production in America, but it’s another sign that video is a growing platform internationally. People prefer it, perhaps some time soon they will demand it.
