Last March, Nicole Moret Schumacher from Fitness Manufacturing Partners called about a video production. Her company wanted to produce an instructional video for the Alignment & Mobility Kit, from their Rejuvenation line of exercise equipment. Nicole had already found the place and actors for the project. She even wrote a Chicago videographer script.
The script was sent to the head of our Chicago videographer marketing department, Shannon Ennis. Shannon read over the script and began preparing a budget on Excel. The fun begins. First Shannon had to figure out how many cameras we would use. Then she needed to evaluate the on-screen talent and location. She had to figure out what the on-screen talent would be doing and how we would film them. Would it be a full day or half day shoot? How big of a crew do we need? Nicole arranged for the shoot to be done at a gym, but we had to determine if the gym would be open. If it is open, should we worry about noise coming from other equipment? Maybe from people grunting…
Shannon made some estimates, and finished her bid for Nicole. Once Nicole approved the budget, shooting was scheduled for April. It would be a two camera shoot, with a teleprompter and an extra engineer working sound and lights. There would be four people on set, plus two actors and Nicole supervising.
Before any of this began, Nicole had done a lot of work to prepare the shoot. Once the product was manufactured, Nicole petitioned AthletiCo to use their space and trainers for the tutorial video. Although Nicole could have hired anyone, and filmed the project practically anywhere, using a professional space was important.
The DVD was to be a simplified instruction manual with multiple uses for the kit. Using a professional trainer and gym space would give the video a sense of credibility. Since most people would prefer a video manual to a written one, having that manual delivered by professional trainers was the cherry on top. It’s like Michael Jordan hosting an instructional basketball video. The end result is a happy customer who knows how to use the product.
The video production shoot was successful and gave us more than five hours of raw footage to be compiled into a 30 minute video. We did a few takes for each exercise to make sure we had the best footage to choose from. It took our editor 18 hours to go through all the footage and put it together. Although editing might seem like a bunch of splicing and cutting, this video required audio matching, motion graphics, and voice over work. The job went down without a hitch, and now our work arrives with every Rejuvenation Alignment & Mobility Kit.
