Leveraging social media to increase online video views

To conclude their YouTube Creator Playbook series, ReelSEO published a guide to boosting online video viewership. The blog post offers tips for using Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and breaks down advice into a basic, three-part strategy.

Strategy: Leverage other social media to build viewership on your channel and engage with your audience in new ways.

Why It Works: Social media is a great way to turn your fans into a social army that will help you broadcast your content out to their friends

How To Do It: Engage with your audience and promoting your YouTube content on social media platforms.

For Facebook the Playbook suggests having a dedicated brand page. It’s important to be aware of comments and to participate in the discussion users are having with your brand. Facebook is also a great platform for publishing supplementary content such as special downloads or behind-the-scenes videos.

ReelSEO also points out Twitter’s updated interface, which now makes videos viewable in-stream. Although Twitter is often the noisiest of social networks, it gives users the freedom to post updates often without being a big nuisance. Likewise, because Twitter is such a public platform, reaching out to strangers is much easier than on some other social networks.

Lastly there’s Google Plus, the youngest of today’s social networks, which makes some users and brands hesitant to use it at all. However, G+ has some unique features that could be useful when communicating with fans or friends. For instance, G+ gives users a lot of control over who can see what. Likewise, the Hangouts function gives users the unique ability to watch videos with other users.
