After creating great video content, the next step is to make sure your video is seen. A video sitemap will help you do that. What’s a video sitemap? It’s a way for search engines to ‘read’ and index details about your video including description, tags, and category. By creating a sitemap for your videos, you’re allowing search engines to direct visitors to your site instead of directing them to YouTube or similar platforms.
There are two ways you can create a sitemap. You can either use a sitemap generator tool or create it yourself.
Here’s how:
1.a) If you have a WordPress site you can use a plugin such as Video SEO by Yoast, as seen below:
b) If you don’t have a WordPress site, you can use other sitemap generators such as A1 Sitemap Generator.
2. For a more advanced option, you can manually enter the information with a predefined format, as seen below:
<video:thumbnail_loc>http://www.example.com/thumbs/123.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc>
<video:title>Grilling steaks for summer</video:title>
<video:description>Alkis shows you how to get perfectly done steaks every time</video:description>
Google provides a content-rich page on specifics of video sitemaps and how to submit them to Google for good SEO. If you’re interested in learning more about Google sitemaps, visit this page.
