Writer Tim Schmoyer conducted a survey about his readers and discovered some important facts about online video production trends among teens and adults.
It became obvious to him that teens and adults consume online media very differently. For instance, adults are look at online media selfishly, always considering how the content can be of use to them. Younger users, however, use online media to build relationships. Hence the popularity of social networks.
With that said, in 5 years when current high school students are finishing up college and some of them are transitioning into the work place, they may often be more likely to turn to YouTube and social networks than Google. YouTube has already surpassed Yahoo to take the #2 place of total search queries in the U.S.
If nothing else, Schmoyer’s findings give a good indication of the direction online video editing is moving as the online market develops and grows. Today’s youth and young adults are growing with the Internet, and the relation that emerges from that is an intimate one.
