In much of the web connected world, YouTube is home to the most popular video production Chicago projects and the most active users. So when a certain video has millions of views on the social video site, this is a good indicator of actual popularity. But as VIRALBLOG pointed out last week, YouTube is not the only indicator of viral success.
This week I was amazed by below Nokia N9 video. Very cool, must go viral. But even our Viral Friday guys said: “Cool, but not a viral yet, it has only 35,000 views on YouTube.
Curious to learn more, I tapped into the dashboard of our sponsor ViralTracker and looked at the videolytics and social metrics around the Nokia N9 video.
And there it was: That same Nokia N9 video had over 1 Million views on its first day! Not on YouTube, but onYouku, one of China’s biggest video sharing sites…
I wonder if it is even easier for content to go viral on Chinese or other international social networks, where there are millions of more user to discover it. For businesses interested in producing online content, and tapping into certain international markets, perhaps using an unfamiliar network to distribute your work could be an effective way to discover foreign audiences and markets.
