YouTube’s self-funded original content and how it might affect you

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that YouTube has plans to overhaul its website, create categorical channels of content, and invest $100 million in original content. The goal is to entice advertisers to spend more money on ads for the site.

The good news is YouTube might start putting out a bunch of great new video production Chicago projects for consumers to enjoy. The bad new is, corporate video producers now have a lot more competition in the market.

After all, videos are fighting for people’s attention, and a hastily made corporate video might not be as exciting as something fun that YouTube puts out. That being said, this initiative will likely bring a lot more people to YouTube so the potential for your corporate video to get some viewers increases.

On top of that, if you put together a truly stellar video, one that is as good or better than YouTube’s original content, then it’s more likely to get a lot of viewers than it was a year or two ago. The market is moving in favor of great video content, YouTube is investing in that and hopefully consumers will move in-line with the site’s plans.

So this raises the question, how is your business going to react to YouTube’s plans?
